While much of the world’s attention has been focused on the one minister Ahmadinejad was unable to get approved by the Majlis, it seems only natural for the other cabinet members to skip the necessary scrutiny of media and general public. Mahmoud Farshidi for example, was approved as Minister of Education. He is a private school principal with little experience to handle such prominent appointment. That by itself should not be a surprise, as inexperience and incapacity is rampant amongst the new chosen cabinet.

However, some of Mr. Farshidi’s comments are rather interesting and may even be a miniature window into the mindset that produces people like Farshidi. One such comment was apparently made to a group of lawmakers who had interviewed him about the job within the “National Security Commission” of the parliament. According to Kazem Jalali (Farsi link here), a member of that commission, they asked Mr. Farshidi about the ministry’s special program for exceptional/gifted children to which he replied that he has spoken to one of the ranking clergy (olama’) in Qom on that topic and was told that:

“gifted are not the type to be religiously devoted, as god would not award any single human being with all of his gifts and if he furnishes someone with a strong body for example, he will also allocate him a deficiency.”

I guess it would be natural to reason then that only the dim-witted can be religious devotees. And remember, this is coming from a member of a cabinet whose main supposed virtue is their godly dedication.

Now we know that they also know…
