Unable to Kill!

While observing a loved one a couple of weeks back, trying hard to end a ladybug’s tenure on earth, I realized this is one topic I have never mentioned on this blog: I can not kill a single living being!
You heard me right; I just can not. This may sound obvious to some and rather wimpish to others, but it is a fact. I think I even remember the exact moment of my turn-around on that issue and how reading something about the relationship of all living things to one another and where we see the role of humans in that system, made me decide that I had no right to decide on the fate of another being’s life, no matter how otherwise thought of as unimportant and nonessential.
Yes, I also know the contradiction in that and eating meat or even wearing leather, but I’m still taking baby-steps and still haven’t reached the junction of seemingly necessary killing vs. killing for no reason at all. Maybe one day, but not yet.
I remembered all of this today as I made a total fool of myself trying to persuade a cricket to amicably leave my office, while 3 women who work in the same neighborhood pleaded with me to just crush the thing. He finally left for the great big world out there and I’m sure is trying hard tonight to ruin some human’s sleep. Then again, he may remember one human’s act of kindness to him and go make his call in a non-residential area!
