No Big News!

khatami admitting he has failed is no big news. He is just barely admitting to something the entire universe already knew. What may be a topic of discussion howeverm is if his so called 'reform' were genuine and actually had any hope in hell of ever achieving anything substantial.

Never having joined the "reformer" camp and not ever believing Khatami or his buddies ever had any genuine interest in succeeding at what they were promising, I would not be the most unbiased person to answer this. However, millions who bought in to the argument will need a chance to review the events of the last 7 years and formulating their own conclusions.

"Majlis." From the Arabic JaLaSa/YaJLiSu, to sit. "The place where one sits on their ass" might be the most accurate translation, no matter where your congress/parliment is located. Pick a country. The fact that Agha (the "castrated")Khatami can do nothing... is the Reformist/Conservative situation in Iran analogous to the Democrat/Republican situation, that is to say a two-headed beast which essentially says the same thing despite claims to the contrary?

The situtation in Iran, with the large numbers of young people who want change, reminds me of a couple lines from the 60's group, the Doors:

"The old get weak. The young get stronger. May take a week or it may take longer. They've got the guns...but we've got the numbers. Gonna win. We're taking over...come on." Think that's from the Door's song called "Get Together".

Actually, it's from "Five To One." "Get Together" is a Youngbloods song, the "c'mon people now, smile on your brother, etc..." that one. Quite the antithesis to the Doors song. Progressive revolution, well, let's just pray that it is non-violent. I agree with Edmund Burke in some ways on revolution/revolutionaries-sometimes, they end up being worse than what they replaced, especially considering a matched show of force is exerted in removing the oppressor, who oppresses with force. Can we list some parallels in current events?
