Me: Mom, Martha was convicted.Posted by Pedram at March 5, 2004 07:07 PMMom: Oh no! How much does she have to pay to buy her prison term now?
Funny, my Mexican born husband said essentially the same thing this afternoon.
Posted by: Kristen at March 5, 2004 08:18 PMI'd be more interested to know the groups of people who shorted airline stocks months before september 11? why nobody gives f*>? about those guys who cheated Americans billions of dollars.
God most Americans are so naive that media can turn their world upside down on a daily basis.
All this hype for 50k? Let's get real shall we?
Posted by: CornerDude at March 6, 2004 10:41 PMMartha was a former stock broker, and though few people know it, she sat on the board of directors of the New York Stock Exchange. Someone who is on the board of directors of arguably the most important stock exchange in the world says,,,,"Oooops I didn't understand that this was wrong" is lyeing.
On top of that she confronted the investigation with the demand that she would not cooperate with them until they provided her with a written declaration that she had done no wrong. She actually made that demand to the S.E.C. Now thats hubrous.
Can you imagine getting a letter from the IRS stating that they found a discrepencie in your taxes and you come back with some demand like that? You may as well just bend over.
She knew exactly what she did. The evidence that she lied and tried to cover it up was clear. I don't think she deserves 20 years, but it is a fact SHE LIED AND OBSTRUCTED THE INVESTIGATION! GUILTY!
