Let's Trade A Few Slaves!

Iranian revolution, the following catastrophe of hostage-taking, the Iran-Iraq war, the battle between various factions of Iranian government and finally what was going on in Lebanon and elsewhere familiarized the outside world with a new word and a new perceived sets of beliefs: Shi'a Islam. Suddenly people wanted to know who Shiites were and what they wanted. What portion of Muslims are Shiite in face of a Sunni majority, and more. In the midst of all these scrutiny, one point seemed clear to most; Shiites looked to be more radical and strict. Those who knew better, tried in every way possible to amend that perception, much of it with great failure.

September 11th suddenly introduced a new set of parameters into this predicament. The world was introduced to some extremist Sunni Muslims, led by the most extreme of extremes; the Wahabbi sect. Wahabbism, the religion of Saudi royal court, the Taliban and Usama Bin Laden with its literal interpretation of the Koran seemed far less flexible in its approach and outlook than even the most radical adaptation of Shi'a beliefs. Wahabbis strongly believe the world is divided in two camps: Salafis [Wahabbis] as God's people, and everyone else, including Christians, Jews, Shiites and others are infidels and heathens who deserve nothing less than God's revenge and a harsh death.

Saudi government was so scared of these facts being exposed, they hired public relation firms and experts trying to hide the reality. What they could not hide though was tons of actual documents, tapes and books detailing the teachings of prominent Wahabbis, including its 18th century founder Muhammad ibn Abd al - Wahhab. They also couldn't silence their own people who continued to offer a glimpse into this shadowy world of blind belief and extreme faith, that has been largely unknown to most outsiders.

As the latest example, here's the most recent gem from the current leading Wahabbi cleric Sheikh Saleh Al-Fawzan; His holiness has "expressed his unequivocal support for the legalization of slavery". You read right. Sheikh is captured on tape lecturing about how “Slavery is a part of Islam... Slavery is part of jihad, and jihad will remain as long there is Islam.”

I'm sure Sheikh would point out to verses in Koran that refers to slavery to advocate the divine nature of owning other human beings and he will soon also point to other verses to promote torture, oppression of women and having sex with a child under 10 years old. Oh wait a minute, he already has done that and the country built upon those teachings holds one of the most severe records of violating every basic principal of human rights known to mankind.

Suddenly, even those Shi'a extremists don't look that bad!

someone else can correct me but I remember learning how the prophet freed the slaves in one of the early battles. Isn't that story somewhere ?

Yeah he did, read that as well. There's some good books out there on the subject of slavery within the context of Islam, written by both Muslim and non-Muslim. The quandry is figuring out which book is good and which is garbage (tip- avoid anything remotely associated with Pat Robertson)

Yes, Muhammad freed some slaves in certain cases but he never did ban slavery.
There are verses in Quran about the ways we should treat our slaves. There are also verses about taking prisoners of war (and their wives) and using them as slaves.
The articles in "Towzihol Masaa'el" about "treating slaves" are based on these verses.

Thats because Islam, and religion in general is a cancer on the earth. The old testament of the (and I suppose the Jewish texts) also say things something to the effect that it is ok to take slaces as long as the are from some other village.
Yup, I think cancer is a good name for it. And I will gladly face my make and say, "Great planet, it was worth living my whole life just to see one of your amazing sunsets, but the whole religion thing, that pretty much sucks."

All this talk about Islam, religion, Pat Robertson as if we are talking about an alien force does not address the issue. We, right "we" make, brake, and fix againg almost everything we are faced with here in this planet. There has to be a better explanation that "religion is evil, right wing, left wing,.....etc.".

I say as of this very moement this is the best we can some up with. Now lets do better than that!!!

Isn't it widely known that the British Empire helped support and nurture wahabism to use as a force against the Ottoman Empire, to divide and rule the Muslim lands? Today, the West continues to prop up the Saudis and Wahabis in the heart of Muslim lands to spread a false version of Islam to continue the "divide and rule" tactic. Another benefit of propping up a despotic regime which spreads a false ideology is that one day the US/UK (who basically created and supported the Saudis) can begin a PR campaign (aka mass media blitz, aka propaganda) against their creation and eventually implement "regime change" when the Saudis outlive their usefulness to American Imperialism. Thus, even in their demise, the Saudis/Wahabis would be helping the West.

I personally see little difference between Zionist Israel and Saudi Arabia, based on the fact that they are both malignant entities occupying the heart of Muslim Lands (Al Quds and Al Haramain, respectively.)
